1. What this policy covers

This Cookie Policy explains the cookies and similar technologies CompareCove™ uses on our website and app when you compare pet insurance carriers. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. CompareCove is a pet insurance comparison service — we are not an insurer, a licensed producer or an agent, and we do not sell policies.

2. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site stores in your browser. We only set first-party cookies — cookies from comparecoveonline.com itself. We also use closely related browser storage (localStorage) to remember your cookie choice, your theme and your recent comparisons, and lightweight page counters that behave like cookies. Where this policy says “cookies”, it means all of these.

3. The categories we use

• Strictly necessary. Keeps you signed in, remembers your plan and protects the site. These can't be switched off.
• Analytics. First-party counts of pages viewed, searches run and upgrades clicked so we can improve comparisons.
• Marketing & affiliate. Credits partner carriers for referrals and measures campaign performance.

4. The specific cookies we set

• cc_consent — records your cookie choice and its version so we do not ask again. Necessary, expires after 12 months.
• cc_visitor — an anonymous visitor id used to de-duplicate page counts and to evidence your consent choice. Necessary, expires after 12 months.
• Sign-in cookies and tokens — set by our authentication provider to keep your session active. Necessary, cleared when you sign out.
• Analytics counters — pages viewed, comparisons run, carrier links clicked. Set only after you allow Analytics.
• Affiliate attribution — remembers which carrier link you clicked so a partner network can credit the referral. Set only after you allow Marketing & affiliate.

5. Analytics and how we measure the site

Our analytics are first-party and aggregate: we count how many people reach a comparison, which carriers get compared, which pages convert and where visitors said they found us. We do not build advertising profiles about you, we do not sell personal data, and we do not use pet or ZIP details to target you individually. Reports we review internally are counts and trends, not lists of people.

6. Affiliate and referral cookies

When you click through to a carrier or partner, an affiliate network may record that the visit came from CompareCove and may set its own cookie on that carrier’s site. If you then take out a policy, we may earn a commission. This never changes the premium you pay and it does not influence how we rank carriers. Once you leave our site, that third party’s own cookie and privacy policies apply.

7. Your controls

On your first visit a mint-green notice appears at the bottom of the page with two choices: Accept, or Preferences to switch Analytics and Marketing & affiliate on or off individually. Until you choose, only strictly necessary cookies run. You can change your mind at any time by clearing cookies for this site in your browser and revisiting, which brings the notice back. Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies entirely — parts of the Service, including sign-in and saved comparisons, will not work without the necessary ones.

8. Global Privacy Control and opt-out signals

We honor recognized universal opt-out mechanisms, including Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals, and treat them as an opt out of targeted advertising and profiling under the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act. Maryland residents can also exercise their rights to know, correct, delete and appeal as described in our Privacy Policy, and can raise concerns with the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Maryland Attorney General.

9. Consent records

Each choice you make is logged with the date, the page you were on, your browser type and an anonymous visitor id so we can demonstrate your preference if asked. We keep those records for as long as needed to show compliance, then delete them.

10. Changes and contact
